Education

At HERJC, we have created a Jewish learning environment where our students learn the content of a significant Jewish life in a way that is inviting, supportive, and friendly. We want our students to know that they belong here; that HERJC is their synagogue and their local Jewish community center and not simply “school”.

Nursery School

The Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre Nursery School creates a happy, healthy environment where two, three and four year olds can grow and develop socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. We have dedicated many years to developing a child directed program where play is the medium for learning. Our school adds a religious and Judaic cultural dimension which seeks to develop a love for things Jewish and an environment in the Mitzvot of the Torah. Jewish values are used in both formal and informal instruction and become part of the daily routine.

Our school provides an environment where individual difference in children's style, pace of learning and functioning are recognized and respected. The goals of the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre Nursery School are happy healthy children, eagerly asking questions, seeking answers, and looking forward to the next step up the educational ladder.

Our school has been the recipient of the New York Metropolitan Region United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism Award for the past five years, and most recently has achieved the honor of the gold National award.

Religious School

While Judaism does not pretend that there are easy answers to the questions that often bedevil us, it does give us a way to wrestle with those questions. The task of Jewish education is to prepare us to see the problems of the world - and their solutions - in a Jewish context.

At HERJC's Religious School, we teach Jewish tradition and texts so that our students will have the tools to be thinking caring Jews in a modern, demanding world.

At HERJC Religious School, we are committed to family education –which takes several forms.  One of them is our wonderful and meaningful family art projects.
