It's a Mitzvah. . .

Small acts that bring big results!

Our Synagogue takes pride in our involvement in social welfare, educational, and environmental organizations in our community. Below are some of the "Mitzvah Projects" we ask you to help us support:

NEW COLLECTION - PLEASE SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY
Toiletry Colletion:
Please bring us any toiletries you might have at home that were saved from from your hotel room during a vacation.  We will be donating them to a homeless shelter later in the year.

Bring us your used batteries
Used batteries are poisoning our landfills!  Help save the earth by bringing your used batteries to the synagogue for collection and proper recycling.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JEWS ARE HUNGRY HERE, TOO!
Please take one moment to think about those people right in our own area who have empty pantries and empty stomachs!
We are ALWAYS collecting kosher, non-perishable food items for the local  Kosher food pantry. Please leave your donations in the Lucite box in the front lobby.
A sincere THANK YOU for your continuing support
Phyllis Gilbert Nadler
Chairperson, Community Service
 HERJC Mission Statement
Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre/Congregation Etz Chaim (HERJC) is a warm, vibrant, traditional-egalitarian Conservative congregation.  Our diverse, forward-thinking community is one in which learning, prayer and social action flourish.
Since its founding in 1949, HERJC has been recognized for creating a welcoming environment in which each member-regardless of age, stage of life or background-feels a connection to one another, to the Jewish people, to the United States, to the land and state of Israel, to Judaism and to God.
We are committed to continuing to provide innovative, interesting, and thought-provoking programs that:
  • Foster lifelong learning from pre-school through adulthood
  • Celebrate our Jewish heritage
  • Deepen the sense of community among our Congregational family
  • Promote religious involvement of all members, and enhance their spiritual experience
  • Encourage intergenerational cooperation
  • Nurture the state of Israel and our relationship with it
  • Serve the needs of our members, the local community, the United States and K'lal Yisrael, the Jewish people throughout the worls.
The Pirkei Avot says the world rests on Torah, Avoda, and G'milut Chasidim.  So too does our Congregation.
